Xavier Rudd releases 'White Moth' in America

November 12, 2007 07:11 AM
Australian one-man band Xavier Rudd is coming to North America next year for a tour of nearly 30 cities in the US and Canada.

The multi-instrumentalist, who is currently touring his homeland, will launch his US run Jan. 8 in Santa Cruz, CA, and visit clubs and theaters from coast to coast before heading to the Great White North Jan. 31. The trek, which will feature Bermudian reggae/soul artist Mishka in the opening slot, is scheduled to wrap Feb. 22 in Vancouver. Details are listed below.

Pre-sale tickets are currently available through Rudd's website.

The performer--known for blending the indigenous music of Australia with folk, reggae, rock and world rhythms--is supporting his third US release, "White Moth," which surfaced in June. The set covers topics ranging from family to global warming, and harnesses the spirit of Rudd's energetic live performance, according to his bio. It features guest vocals from Aboriginal singers and the Aboriginal music group Yothu Yindi.

"White Moth," which was co-produced by Rudd and Dave Ogilvie (David Bowie, Marilyn Manson), reached No. 30 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart and No. 13 on the Top Heatseekers chart. A few songs from the record are streaming at Rudd's MySpace page.

The album follows 2005's "Food in the Belly" and 2004's "Solace," which was Rudd's first release to receive widespread distribution in North America.

The musician plays guitars, stomp boxes, djembes, harmonica, a variety of percussion instruments, and didgeridoo, the 50,000-year-old wooden trumpet of the Aborigines. Rudd's stage shows often find him surrounded by a set-up that allows him to play several of those instruments simultaneously.
