John Mayer takes a sea cruise with friends, fans

John Mayer and about a dozen other performers will set sail on the Mayercraft Carrier in February for a three-day concert cruise.

The trip on Carnival Cruise Lines is set to launch Feb. 1 from Miami and visit Freeport, Bahamas. Mayer will perform in nightclub-like settings along with a group of artists including Soulive, Brandi Carlile, Martin Sexton and DJ Logic. Information, including the full list of performers, is available at the Mayercraft Carrier website.

Environmental organization Reverb, which greened Mayer's Continuum Summer Tour, will be on board to offset the cruise's environmental impact and provide information to fans. A crew from VH1 is also expected to be on hand to film a segment of "Best Week Ever."

Mayer is the latest in a group of entertainers who have teamed with lifestyle-events firm Sixthman to charter a music cruise. The company also has upcoming concerts at sea hosted by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sister Hazel, and Barenaked Ladies, as well as the Cayamo: A Journey Through Song cruise featuring Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris, Shawn Colvin, John Hiatt, Patti Griffin and others.

On his inaugural concert cruise, Mayer will continue to support his Grammy-winning album, "Continuum," which surfaced last year and spawned the hit "Waiting on the World to Change." During the summer, he completed an extensive US tour that stopped in arenas and amphitheaters all over the country.

"Continuum" is Mayer's third full-length effort and marks his first time as producer. It follows his 2003 solo album, "Heavier Things," and the John Mayer Trio's 2005 live album, "Try!," on which Mayer collaborated with drummer Steve Jordan and bassist Pino Palladino.
