Toby Keith readies holiday special, 2008 dates

Since his summer tour wrapped in September, Toby Keith has been busy with a new Christmas album and a holiday television special, and he's still managed to start booking dates for 2008.

The country star, who topped The Billboard 200 album chart in June with "Big Dog Daddy," released his second holiday set, "A Classic Christmas," last month. The two-disc collection sold more than 18,000 copies its first week out, making it the highest debut for a seasonal country album this year, according to Keith's website.

"A Classic Christmas," produced by Keith and Grammy winner Randy Scruggs, includes one disc of holiday favorites like "White Christmas" and "Silver Bells," and one that focuses on spiritual standards including "The First Noel" and "Away in a Manger." Keith's previous holiday album, 1995's "Christmas to Christmas," was centered around original compositions.

The singer/guitarist will showcase songs from the new record on Country Music Television's "A Toby Keith Classic Christmas," which is scheduled to premiere Nov. 24. Guest star Jewel will join Keith for a couple of songs during the one-hour special.

Meanwhile, Keith is getting ready to join fellow Oklahomans Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks, Vince Gill and Carrie Underwood for the state's Centennial Spectacular tonight (11/16) in Oklahoma City. Last week, Keith became the newest member of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.

The performer has also announced his first couple of dates for 2008. So far, he's got Portland, ME, and Manchester, NH, on the books for February. Details are listed below.

Keith continues to support "Big Dog Daddy," which has spawned hit singles "High Maintenance Woman," and "Love Me if You Can." The set is his second release on his own Show Dog Nashville label, and follows last year's "White Trash with Money," which earned him his 12th career platinum-album award.

Over the course of his career, Keith has sold more than 30 million records and has earned a slew of accolades including three BMI Songwriter of the Year trophies and several Academy of Country Music Awards. He's also branched out into acting and owns the Toby Keith I Love This Bar & Grill restaurant chain.
