Van Halen bulks up 2008 itinerary
With the cat now out of the bag about their plans to remain on the road next year, classic-rockers Van Halen are floating new dates for the impending tour leg as they continue to tackle their late-2007 itinerary.
New to the group's 2008 calendar since last check are stops in San Antonio, TX; Dallas; New Orleans; Charlottesville, VA; Hershey, PA; and Atlantic City, NJ. Also on the books are return visits to New York City's Madison Square Garden and New Jersey's Izod Arena. Tickets for all of the new dates go on sale next month. Details are included below.
After several years of inactivity, Van Halen returned to the road in late September for its first tour in 22 years with original frontman David Lee Roth. The outing--which features a nostalgic setlist comprised solely of songs released during Roth's original 1978-1984 stint with the group--has been a hot seller at the box office, and has received mostly positive reviews from fans and critics alike.
Despite Roths' return, the outing falls short of being a full-fledged reunion of the band's original lineup; prior to setting out on tour, the band's namesake brother duo--Alex and Eddie Van Halen--bounced founding bassist Michael Anthony in favor of Eddie's 16-year-old son, Wolfgang Van Halen.
Earlier this year, Van Halen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Anthony and former vocalist Sammy Hagar were the only two members to attend the ceremony; Eddie Van Halen was in a rehab facility at the time, and Alex and Roth chose to bow out.
Hagar, Anthony and Hagar's backing band, The Wabos, are in the midst of their own 60-date tour, which launched last month and is slated to run until July of next year.
