Big Head Todd & The Monsters give free 'Love'
The Denver-based band will play Austin, TX, and San Diego, CA, this weekend and then take off for a free radio show in Palatine, IL, next week. The group will finish the year with a two-night stand Dec. 29-30 in Sparks, NV, and spend the next few months headlining dates throughout the East, and the quartet has also booked June 7 for its annual hometown benefit show at Red Rocks Amphitheater. Details are listed below.
Meanwhile, BHTM are experimenting with a new distribution idea for their forthcoming full-length album, "All the Love You Need." The band is partnering with radio stations to mail more than a half million copies of the record to fans' homes for free, according to the Denver Post. BHTM are also offering free downloads of the album at their website.
"We see the record as our main marketing tool," singer/guitarist Todd Park Mohr told the Post. "It's no longer a source of income--not that it ever has been for me, given the way major labels work."
Indeed, the band has strengthened its DIY mentality since reportedly being dropped by Giant/Warner Bros. Records. Rather than releasing new studio albums over the past few years, Big Head Todd & The Monsters have tapped into digital distribution, delivering new music to fans via free, monthly podcast files posted at their website.
Earlier this year, the band gave fans a glimpse into its past with "From the Archives - Volume 1," a collection of demos and archived material from its earliest days.
