S Club 7 And Black Legend Take Top Slots On U.K. Charts

LONDON-- S Club 7 showed why it deserved to be named Best British Newcomer at this years Brit Awards, as its second album "7" entered the Official U.K. Album Chart at No. 1 on Sunday (6/18). The band knocked Welsh singer Tom Jones covers album "Reload" down one notch to No. 2 while Eminem s latest album "The Marshall Mathers LP" fell one place to No. 3.

Meanwhile, Moby s album "Play" climbed another place from No. 5 to No. 4, and Whitney Houstons "Greatest Hits" fell from No. 3 to No. 5. Bon Jovis latest release "Crush" also slipped two places from No. 4 to No. 6. Britney Spears demonstrated that she does not have the staying power that she has in the U.S. as she fell seven places from No. 7 to No. 14. However, Santana jumped from No. 14 to No. 8.

This weeks second highest new entry was the Frank Sinatra compilation Classic Sinatra," which debuted on the chart at No. 10. Other new entries included: BB King & Eric Claptons "Riding with the King" at No. 15, Peter Gabriels "OVO" at No. 24 and Alice Coopers "Brutal Planet" at No. 38.

The Official U.K. Singles Chart also saw a new act in at No. 1. Italian dance group Black Legend, with its Barry White sampled-hit "You See the Trouble with Me," stole the top slot from Sonique, whose "It Feels So Good" fell to No. 2. Other new top 10 entries included Darudes "Sandstorm" at No. 3, "Porcelain"--the sixth single from Mobys album "Play"--at No. 5 and Backstreet Boys at No. 8 with "The One".

R&B singer Jamelias latest EP "Call Me" debuted at No. 11 and Richard Ashcroft, former lead singer of the Verve, entered the singles chart at No. 17 with "Money to Burn." In contrast, Travis latest single "Coming Around" plummeted 18 places in its second week from No. 5 to No. 23. George Michael and Whitney Houstons duet "If I Told You That" also did a major dive as it fell from No. 9 to No. 19.
