More shows, kudos for Taylor Swift
Rising country star Taylor Swift is starting to fill up her 2008 calendar with headlining shows, festivals and a stint opening for Rascal Flatts in Canada.
The singer/songwriter, who just celebrated her 18th birthday, will start with a Jan. 12 gig opening for Alan Jackson in Nashville, then move on to visit US cities from coast-to-coast through February before heading out with Rascal Flatts on a five-city Canadian trek. Swift is also scheduled to play Indio, CA's Stagecoach Festival in May, and she has a headlining slot on July's Country Jam USA in Eau Claire, WI. Details are listed below.
The performer has taken her live show to more than 1 million fans over the past year, thanks to opening slots for Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Brad Paisley, and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, according to Big Machine Records.
Swift, who picked up a guitar and started writing songs at age 12, has been in a whirlwind since her self-titled debut was released last year. The set spent eight consecutive weeks atop Billboard's Top Country Albums chart and has reached double-platinum status.
Her latest single, "Our Song," recently claimed the top spot on the country singles chart, making Swift the youngest person to single-handedly write and sing a No. 1 country single, according to her website. She is also the first female artist in country music history to write or co-write every song on a double-platinum-selling debut album.
Last month, Swift put out a deluxe-edition version of her CD, which includes three additional songs that she recorded when she was 14 and 15, and a DVD containing performance footage, videos and behind-the-scenes features. She also recently released "Sound of the Season: The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection," a six-song set available exclusively at Target.
In addition to collecting hit songs like "Tim McGraw" and "Teardrops on My Guitar," Swift has been gathering her share of honors this year, including the CMA Horizon Award, the CMT Music Award for Breakthrough Video, and the Nashville Songwriters Association's Songwriter/Artist of the Year honor. Earlier this month, she found out she is up for the Best New Artist trophy at next year's 50th Annual Grammy Awards.
