Liars support 'Liars' with headlining trek
The three-piece band is scheduled to make a round trip from the West Coast to the East Coast and back, starting Jan. 25 in San Francisco and running into late February. This time around, Liars will play in clubs and theaters with fellow Los Angeles band No Age opening. Details are listed below.
While frontman Angus Andrew described the Interpol tour as "a mind-blowing orgy of music and memories," he said Liars are looking forward to getting back into the more intimate venues.
"We thrive on the strong visceral power of the audience," Andrew said in a statement. "Being face to face with a crowd can sometimes make me want to eat them. I look forward to that opportunity on this tour."
He added that the band is eager to play some of the songs from its new self-titled release, which surfaced in August. The album, Liars' fourth full-length, continues the group's constant shift in styles, but this time, the members have stripped away concepts and sound collages and gone for simplicity with a pop edge.
"We wanted to write songs that reminded us a little of what it was like to be a teenager--so pretty much the only preparation we did was going back and listening to the bands we liked when we were kids, stuff like OMD, The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees," Andrew explained.
Several songs from the album are streaming at Liars' MySpace page.
The self-titled set follows last year's "Drums Not Dead," which was partly inspired by Liars' relocation from New York City to Berlin. That set came with its own cinematic sister project--a DVD with three film versions of the album.
