Lyle Lovett lives 'Large' on the road
Texas troubadour Lyle Lovett will continue to back his new album, "It's Not Big It's Large," with a run of February dates in North America.
The singer/songwriter will hit the high seas before he hits the road, playing the "Cayamo: A Journey Through Song" Carribean cruise, which shoves off from Miami Feb. 4 and features artists including Emmylou Harris, Shawn Colvin and John Hiatt. Lovett and Hiatt will then share the stage during a stint that is scheduled to visit Ontario and a half dozen US cities along the East Coast. Lovett is currently scheduled to wrap the trek with his own show Feb. 23 in Northampton, MA. Details are listed below.
The four-time Grammy winner released his 13th album, "It's Not Big It's Large," in August. The 12-track set, produced by Lovett and longtime collaborator Billy Williams, reached No. 18 on The Billboard 200 and No. 2 on the Top Country Albums chart. It features Lovett's signature Large Band and covers everything from country to blues, to folk, jazz and gospel. A few song samples are streaming at the singer's MySpace page.
A deluxe version of the album including a DVD with studio footage is also available.
"Its Not Big It's Large" follows Lovett's Lost Highway Records debut, "My Baby Don't Tolerate," which surfaced in 2003. That set marked his first collection of original material since 1996's "Road to Ensenada."
Between tours, Lovett has been doing his civic duty, testifying before a Senate Judiciary Committee about royalties for singers and musicians, according to The Dallas Morning News. In last month's testimony, he declared royalty rules for radio play an "incomprehensible anomaly" and pleaded with the committee for relief.
