Art Garfunkel confirms 2008 trek
After the holidays, Art Garfunkel will head out on a US tour that mixes solo and symphony dates.
The singer will launch the outing Jan. 5 in Palm Desert, CA, and play two-week stints in January and February, followed by a handful of dates in March and April. Local symphonies will join Garfunkel in Palm Desert; Waco, TX; Augusta, GA; Bethesda, MD; Baltimore, MD; Oklahoma City, OK; and Salem, VA. Two-night stands are booked in Baltimore, Oklahoma City and Stuart, FL. Details are listed below.
The performer, who has won five Grammys as one half of folk duo Simon and Garfunkel, continues to support his 12th solo album, "Some Enchanted Evening," which surfaced in January. Earlier this year, Garfunkel completed an international tour that saw him visit cities all over the US as well as Europe and Canada.
"Some Enchanted Evening" celebrates material from 20th Century songwriters including Rodgers & Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, Antonio Carlos Jobim and George Gershwin. It includes the classics "Someone to Watch Over Me," "Let's Fall in Love," "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" and the title track.
The set follows Garfunkel's 2002 effort, "Everything Waits to be Noticed," which marked his songwriting debut.
The singer, who counts acting and poetry among his talents, also shows up in Charles Grodin's new book, "If I Only Knew Then ... Learning from Our Mistakes." Garfunkel is one of 82 celebrities who share stories about lessons learned the hard way. Royalties from the book will be donated to HELP USA, which serves the homeless.
