Hole Drummer To Play With Motley Crue

Motley Crue has announced that Hole drummer Samantha Maloney will fill in for current Crue drummer Randy Castillo on the initial dates of the band’s upcoming tour. Castillo is recovering from emergency stomach surgery.

“With the tour starting in one week, we didn’t want to cancel shows on fans,” said Crue bassist Nikki Sixx in a statement the band issued. “We had previously met Samantha and knew she was dynamic and could add a real edge to the live show. Our first practice together was great--she already knew most of the songs. We wish Randy a speedy recovery.”

“Playing with Motley Crue has been a lifelong dream for me,” said Maloney in the statement. “It’s like winning the lotto. Rehearsing with the band has been amazing and I can’t wait to play in front of the Motley Crue fans.”

The band’s“Maximum Rock tour--which also features Megadeth and Anthrax--is scheduled to begin on Saturday, June 24, in Sacramento, Calif., and the new Motley Crue album “New Tattoo” is set for a July 11 release.

“It is a great moment in the history of rock when Samantha Maloney gets to play ‘Girls Girls Girls’ with Motley Crue,” said Hole band-leader Courtney Love via the Crue’s statement. Hole, according to the statement, will return to the studio in October to record its next album.

A spokesperson for Motley Crue said that Maloney is slated to play with the Crue on the tour’s “initial group of dates,” but added that it was not known when Castillo would return. No further details about Castillo's condition were available.

The video for “Hell on High Heels,” the first single from the band’s forthcoming album, will premiere on VH1 on Monday (6/19), and can be viewed at VH1.com until June 25. This fall, the band plans to release a tell-all book entitled "The Dirt" this fall.

The Maximum Rock tour is currently scheduled to run until Sept. 3.
