Mountain Goats ready to show 'Pride'
Indie rockers The Mountain Goats will mount a headlining tour early next year behind their new studio album, "Heretic Pride," which hits stores in February.
The duo--ever-present singer/guitarist John Darnielle and bassist Peter Hughes--kicks off the brief run Feb. 19 in Anchorage, AK, with a total of 11 shows in seven cities confirmed through the first week of March. Dates are shown below.
Unofficially the band's 16th full-length studio release in a career dating back to 1991's cassette-only release "Taboo VI: The Homecoming," the latest set from the prolific Darnielle features input from Hughes, Franklin Bruno, Annie Clark, Erik Friedlander, Jon Wurster and the Bright Mountain Choir.
The disc--co-produced by Scott Solter (Spoon, Okkervil River) and John Vanderslice (mk Ultra)--follows last year's "Get Lonely," which Solter also produced.
"We are really excited about this album, and we wish it were out right now, but there is a law against releasing albums in December unless you are Queen," Darnielle quipped recently on the band's website.
"Any album you see released in December is actually by Queen, no matter what it says on the cover," he continued. "Then in January everybody is recovering from having listened to too much Queen. Hence, February. See you then!"
