Clutch tours into 'Oblivion'
Hard rockers Clutch are wrapping 2007 with a run of shows on the East Coast and will return to the road in February for a monthlong US tour.
The band will criss-cross the country next year, beginning Feb. 21 with a two-night stand in Cambridge, MA. Joining Clutch on the club/theater outing are Murder by Death, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, and Hex Machine. Dates, which also include a stop in Toronto, are listed below.
Since spring, Clutch has been touring the US, Canada, Europe and Australia to support its latest studio effort, "From Beale Street to Oblivion," which surfaced in March. The record reached No. 52 on The Billboard 200 and No. 4 on the Top Independent Albums chart, and spawned mainstream rock single "Electric Worry." That song and a couple of others from the set are streaming at Clutch's MySpace page.
The new album, produced by Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of the Stone Age), continues Clutch's evolution from its early-'90s hardcore sound to more blues-influenced rock.
"Musically, we've become much more of a rock 'n' roll band now, as opposed to being a metal or hardcore one," frontman Neil Fallon said in a statement. "Our style is riff-oriented, with a swing."
He added that the change in style was never a calculated move.
"We just followed our instinct, and that is leading us closer to those bands to whom we listened in our childhood--bands which are now termed as 'classic rock.'"
Clutch followed "From Beale Street to Oblivion" with a two-disc live set, "Heard It All Before - Live at HiFi Bar," which was recorded in Melbourne, Australia, earlier this month. The CDs include more than 140 minutes of Clutch and its jazzy side project, Bakerton Group.
The Maryland-based rockers also have a new track, "King of Arizona," on Bam Margera's latest "Viva La Bands" compilation album.
