Reverend Horton Heat tours into summer
Psychobilly rockers The Reverend Horton Heat have added nearly two dozen dates to their 2008 North American tour, which now stretches through July.
The trio, which has been on the road since early November, will kick off the new year Jan. 2 with 11 dates in Colorado, including two-night stands in Aspen and Vail. The Rev will then trek around the Midwest and South into mid-January before taking a break in February and March. Dates pick up again in mid-April, with the band visiting a slew of cities across the US and a few Canadian provinces into July.
Fellow psychobilly outfit Nashville Pussy is set to open all shows, with Backyard Tire Fire, Grady and Supersuckers also appearing on select dates. The itinerary is listed below.
Following the North American trek, The Reverend Horton Heat is scheduled to head overseas for a few gigs in Spain and England. Those dates can be found at the band's website.
The trio--comprising guitarist/vocalist Jim Heath, upright bassist Jimbo Wallace and drummer Paul Simmons--released its last proper studio album, "Revival," in 2004. That was followed in 2005 by the band's first-ever Christmas album, "We Three Kings." Last year saw the release of a 15-song set titled "20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Reverend Horton Heat."
Meanwhile, Heath is getting ready to put out his debut album with his side project, Rev. Organdrum, which has five-time Grammy-winner Tim Alexander on Hammond organ and Todd Soesbe on drums. "Hi-Fi Stereo," which covers vintage American music from Booker T. & the MG's to Bill Doggett, is due Jan. 8.
"This combo has given me an outlet for a lot of different, yet 'vintage' styles," Heath said of Rev. Organdrum in a statement. "Blues, TV and movie themes, swing, standards, New Orleans-style soul, jazz and surf make up a lot of our sound. Our repertoire is very similar to the repertoire of many groups from the early to middle sixties."
