Medeski Martin & Wood
"Let's Go Everywhere"
(Megaforce)
The avant-garde jazz trio--featuring keyboardist John Medeski, drummer Billy Martin and bassist Chris Wood--has long been a favorite of Phish-heads and other members of the jam-band community. Now, the trio is trying something a bit different and has released its first album of children's music. The disc includes such kid-friendly titles as "Pirates Don't Take Baths," "Hickory Dickory Dock" and "Cat Creeps."
Rhonda Vincent
"Good Thing Going"
(Rounder)
The bluegrass superstar returns with a follow-up to 2006's "All American Bluegrass Girl," a work that hit No. 1 on the bluegrass chart and climbed to No. 43 on the country chart. The vocalist/multi-instrumentalist (who really turns heads with her mandolin work) has called upon her A-list friends to help her with this album. The role call for "Good Thing Going" includes Keith Urban and Bryan Sutton.
Sia
"Some People Have Real Problems"
(Hear Music)
The 32-year-old vocalist returns with her fourth CD. Besides her career as a solo artist, which has produced such club hits as "Drink to Get Drunk," Sia is also known for her work with Zero 7, Massive Attack and William Orbit. Her song "Breathe Me," from the album "Colour the Small One," garnered significant buzz after it was used in the final episode of HBO's "Six Feet Under" series.
Jack Bruce and Robin Trower
"Seven Moons"
(V-12)
Jack Bruce is best known for his bass work with the legendary power trio Cream. Robin Trower, who achieved much success with Procol Harum, is considered one of the finest electric guitarists to ever walk the planet. Now, these two '60s music icons are releasing what's got to be one of the most intriguing collaborations of early 2008. The two veterans are very familiar with each other. In fact, "Seven Moons" is the fourth release to feature the pair. The others include 1981's "Truce."
