Carrie Underwood mounts first headlining tour
Carrie Underwood , who's getting ready to launch a co-headlining trek with Keith Urban , has started to announce dates for her own North American outing.
The first half-dozen shows on the "Carnival Ride Tour" will intertwine with the Urban co-bill, which is set to kick off Jan. 31 in Uncasville, CT. Underwood's headlining gigs begin Feb. 18 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and she'll take Grammy-nominated country singer Josh Turner along for the ride. The tour is expected to grow to 30-plus dates, according to a press release, and the first round of shows go on sale Saturday (1/12). Underwood's updated itinerary is listed below.
The country/crossover songstress said she is excited about doing a full show of her music.
"I have been so fortunate to learn from so many other great artists while touring with them, and they have inspired me in so many ways," Underwood said in a statement. "They have helped me to get to this stage of my first real headline shows, and now I finally feel ready."
Her superstar status in the live realm appears to be catching up with her superstar status in the recording world, where she recently made history by becoming the No. 1 best-selling female artist across all genres for two years in a row, according to a press release.
Her sophomore set, October's double-platinum-selling "Carnival Ride," has spawned the multi-week No. 1 hit "So Small," which is Underwood's fifth consecutive country chart topper. The first four came from the singer's multi-platinum debut, "Some Hearts." Her latest single, "All-American Girl," is currently making its way up the country charts.
Underwood is a two-time Grammy winner and the reigning Female Vocalist of the Year for the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association.
