Limp Bizkit Heads Free Napster Tour
update: Details for Limp Bizkit ’s free, Napster-sponsored tour continue to shift. Dates and cities for the summer performances have been released, but venues for the tour have not yet been confirmed, according to a spokesperson for the band’s management.
The tour is currently scheduled to stop in Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, Massachusetts, New York, Texas, Colorado, California and Washington. Most stops will consist of two consecutive nights, and the tour will wind up with three consecutive nights in Los Angeles on August 3, 4 and 5.
Cypress Hill , who released the double-album "Skull and Bones" (Columbia) in April, has been tagged as the opening act for the tour.
Earlier this year--around the same time Metallica was filing a copyright infringement lawsuit against Napster--Limp Bizkit announced that the controversial MP3 file-trading company would pay for a series of the band's concerts. TheStandard.com quoted Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst as saying, "We believe that the Internet and Napster should not be ignored by the music industry as tools to promote awareness for bands and market music."
Fred Durst and company are currently at work on a new Limp Bizkit album, tentatively titled "Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water." Reports indicate that the band is roughly halfway finished with production, and a late summer/early fall release is expected.
A new song from the band, "Take a Look Around (Theme from 'M:I-2')" is featured on the "Mission:Impossible 2" soundtrack. The band reportedly performed several new numbers on Saturday (6/17) at a radio festival near Los Angeles.
Limp Bizkit's second album, "Significant Other" (Interscope) was released last year and was RIAA certified last month for shipping over 6 million copies in the United States.
