Panic at the Disco to headline Honda Civic Tour
Newly exclamation-point-liberated Panic at the Disco will serve as the headline attraction for this year's eighth edition of the Honda Civic Tour , organizers have announced.
The news was revealed yesterday (1/9) at the automaker's US headquarters in Torrance, CA, which also featured the unveiling of a customized Honda Civic designed by the band as well as a surprise performance by the Las Vegas-based group.
The custom car will be showcased at each stop throughout the coming tour, which kicks off April 10 in San Francisco, and given away to one lucky fan. Full routing for the trek, which concludes June 14 in Anaheim, CA, will be announced at a later date.
"We're taking advice from Fall Out Boy, who headlined the Honda Civic Tour last year, on how to make this year's tour even better," said Panic lead singer Brendon Urie in a press statement. "Those guys set the bar pretty high, but we're really looking forward to hitting the road again and are definitely up for the challenge."
The Honda Civic tour began in 2001, featuring Blink-182 leading a host of up-and-coming bands. Last year's event featuring headliners Fall Out Boy focused on the Honda Civic Hybrid and promoted green technologies and environmental consciousness.
The tour will once again take on a green tinge, say organizers. For every ticket purchased, one dollar will go into a fund designated by non-profit organizations and tour partners Reverb and Global Inheritance.
Panic at the Disco has set a March 25 release date for its next studio album, which will be titled "Pretty. Odd." according to MTV News. The disc follows the band's 2005 debut, "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out." The album's first single, "Nine in the Afternoon," is due on radio airwaves later this month.
The band also appears to be losing the characteristic exclamation point that appeared after "Panic" in its name. The group's official website no longer contains the punctuation mark, and neither does the Honda Civic Tour press release.
