Xiu Xiu follows 'Women' on headlining tour
Experimental indie rockers Xiu Xiu have lined up a headlining trek this spring behind their forthcoming new full-length, "Women as Lovers," which drops later this month.
The San Francisco-based art-rock outfit, whose name is pronounced "shoe shoe," kicks off the run March 7 in Portland, OR. The lengthy outing includes stops in 31 cities and runs deep into April, with support throughout from fellow indie acts and Kill Rock Stars labelmates Thao Ngyuen and The Get Down Stay Down. All dates are below.
"Women as Lovers," Xiu Xiu's sixth studio album, features guest contributions from Swans/Angels of Light frontman Michael Gira, Deerhoof guitarist John Dietrich, and saxophonist Howard Wiley, plus studio mixing by Deerhoof drummer Greg Saunier.
The set, which follows 2006's "The Air Force," also marks the debut of bassist Devin Hoff as a full-time member of the band, joining singer/songwriter Jamie Stewart, keyboardist Caralee McElroy and percussionist Ches Smith.
The album will hit retail stores Jan. 29, and the iTunes version will include five exclusive bonus tracks. Additionally, 500 limited-edition copies will be packaged with a bonus DVD entitled "What's Your Problem?" that contains tour footage, photos and music videos.
As an extra treat for fans who don't want to wait until the end of the month to hear the new record, Xiu Xiu is streaming the new album in its entirety right now at its MySpace page.
