Natalie Cole goes live this spring
Grammy-winning R&B/jazz singer Natalie Cole is looking toward spring, when she'll head out for a handful of North American theater shows.
Cole will start by helping Santa Barbara, CA's newly restored Granada Theatre celebrate its grand reopening March 14. At the moment, the chanteuse has a couple of scattered gigs in Nova Scotia and Boston in March and April, respectively, before she heads out for a half-dozen shows along the East Coast in May. Details are listed below.
Cole continues to support her 20th studio album, "Leavin'," which reached No. 16 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart when it dropped in the fall of 2006. The record--an eclectic mix of pop, R&B and rock--features Cole covering songs by artists including Aretha Franklin, Neil Young, Fiona Apple, Kate Bush, Sting and Shelby Lynne, among others. It also includes the original tune "5 Minutes Away."
Her version of Franklin's "Day Dreaming" marked Cole's first urban/pop single in nearly 16 years and earned her another Grammy nomination.
The singer's eight-Grammy streak started in 1975 with her debut album, "Inseparable," which was reissued in August. She's taken home several more gold statues for posthumous duets with her legendary father, Nat "King" Cole; "Unforgettable" won two Grammys in 1991 and "When I Fall in Love" took the honor for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals in 1996.
