311 ramps up tour plans
Reggae-rockers 311 have had a change of heart, expanding their brief spring jaunt into a five-week run that includes the band's first official tour of Canada.
The members originally planned to play about 10 dates leading up to their biggest annual event, "3-11 Day" in New Orleans, but they decided to extend the trek in order to hit some cities they don't typically play during summer outings, according to a blog entry at 311's MySpace page.
The tour is scheduled to launch Feb. 22 in Las Vegas and visit US cities from coast to coast before crossing over to Canada and then wrapping with a March 31 gig in Seattle. Details are listed below.
So-Cal reggae-funk rockers Slightly Stoopid will fill the opening slot on the Canadian trek. Support acts for the US run are expected to be announced shortly.
The March 11 "3-11 Day" show in New Orleans sold out in a flash, with 13,000 fans from all 50 states and several other countries snapping up tickets for the annual celebration, according to a press release. Concertgoers in the Crescent City can look forward to a marathon set by 311 and some special surprises.
The Omaha-bred rockers continue to support their eighth studio album, 2005's "Don't Tread on Me," which reached No. 5 on The Billboard 200 and scored a modern-rock hit with the title track. They are currently holed up in their Los Angeles Hive Studio working on their next album.
311--which has been making its brand of rock, reggae, hip-hop and funk music for more than 17 years--has sold more than 7 million albums in the US, according to a statement.
