They Might Be Giants return to the road
They Might Be Giants are at it again, announcing another leg of US dates to support their latest release, "The Else."
The quirky alt-rockers will kick things off Feb. 2 in New York City and visit clubs and theaters around the East and Midwest into April. The March 29 stop in Portsmouth, NH, will feature an afternoon show for kids and an evening concert for adults. Irish indie-pop band Oppenheimer will open most of the dates, which are listed below.
Last year, They Might Be Giants mounted a marathon tour behind their 12th album, "The Else." Shows from the fall outing are currently available for download at the band's website.
"The Else" was released in July on TMBG's own Idlewind imprint and broke into The Billboard 200 at No. 118. The set was created in collaboration with L.A. producers the Dust Brothers (Beck, Beastie Boys) and New York City producer/engineer Patrick Dillett (Mary J. Blige, David Byrne).
Singer/guitarist John Flansburgh and singer/keyboardist John Linnell formed They Might Be Giants as a duo in 1982. In the '90s, they expanded their horizons into television, movies and the Internet, notably contributing to the film "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me," Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and FOX-TV's "Malcolm in the Middle," the theme for which earned TMBG a Grammy award.
The band is currently touring as a five piece, with drummer Marty Beller, guitarist Dan Miller and bassist Danny Weinkauf rounding out the lineup.
TMBG, who are also critically acclaimed in the kiddie community, have a new children's CD/DVD set, "Here Come the 123s," due Feb. 5. Young fans can also catch the band on its weekly video podcasts, which are available for free at Apple's iTunes Music Store.
