Tony Bennett already plotting for next year
Tony Bennett shows no signs of slowing down, as the 80-year-old crooner continues to line up dates far down the road, including an Atlantic City run late next year.
The legendary singer has a show or two scheduled for most months this year through November, with his next date coming March 19 in Hollywood, FL. The singer, who toured fairly extensively during late summer and early fall of 2007, has already mapped four dates for next year, all of them at Caesars Casino in Atlantic City. All of Bennett's currently scheduled shows are listed below.
Bennett's latest album, "Tony Bennett Sings the Ultimate American Songbook, Vol. 1," features the singer putting his characteristic touches on 15 classic songs from throughout his career, including a 1958 performance of Cole Porter's "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye" and a version of "Ain't Misbehavin'" from his 1964 album "Hot Chocolate."
The set follows 2006's "Duets: An American Classic," which paired the singer with an album's worth of superstar talents, including Paul McCartney, Barbra Streisand, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and many others. His duet on the album's version of "Steppin' Out" with Christina Aguilera recently earned the pair a Grammy nomination in the Pop Collaboration With Vocals category.
In September, the television special "Target Presents Tony Bennett: An American Classic" scored three Prime-time Emmy wins; the show itself was crowned Best Variety, Musical or Comedy Special, while Bennett won in the Individual Performance, Variety or Music Showcategory, and director Rob Marshall was named Best Director, Variety, Music or Comedy Show. The program, which aired on NBC the previous November, featured the crooner performing with many of the singers featured on his duets album in addition to narrative segments highlighting his career.
Bennett, who has sold more than 50 million albums over six decades, is also staying busy in his personal life. Last summer, the octogenarian married his longtime girlfriend, 47-year-old Susan Crow, after dating her for 18 years.
