Jackson Browne readies solo-acoustic album, tour
Veteran singer/songwriter Jackson Browne has assembled a monthlong solo-acoustic outing to coincide with the March release of his forthcoming live album.
The tour is scheduled to launch March 7 in Louisville, KY, and make its way around the Southeast and up the East Coast through early April. Details are listed below. Fan Club members can access pre-sale tickets at Browne's website.
The performer's latest album release, 2005's "Solo Acoustic Vol. 1," snagged a Grammy nomination and a Top 5 spot on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart. The set, Browne's first live release since 1977, includes 12 career-spanning songs culled from his solo-acoustic concerts worldwide as well as the recording debut of the more than 30-year-old tune "The Birds of St. Marks." The sequel, "Solo Acoustic Vol. 2," is scheduled to drop March 4.
Between albums, Browne has appeared on benefit compilations including Hard Rock International's "SERVE2" and "Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur." The social and political activist has also recently lent his talent to bolster John Edwards' presidential campaign.
Browne's music career took off in 1972 with his self-titled debut, which spawned the hit "Doctor My Eyes." His biggest album, 1977's "Running On Empty," has gone seven-times platinum, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.
Browne's artistry was recognized with his 2004 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and last year's induction into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame. His recent humanitarian honors include the John Steinbeck Award and the World Hunger Year Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award.
