Kenny Chesney expands 'Poets & Pirates' trek
After announcing earlier this month his plans to entertain vast numbers of fans in football stadiums, Kenny Chesney scales back to arenas with the latest additions to his tour.
The country superstar will wrap a more traditional schedule around his football-stadium appearances, which will have the look of gala events, featuring LeAnn Rimes and Gary Allan as support and a number of special guests joining Chesney on stage, including Keith Urban, Brooks & Dunn, Sammy Hagar and Big & Rich.
Chesney's run kicks off April 18 in Uncasville, CT, the first of back-to-back nights at the Mohegan Sun casino. A week later, the singer hits the first stadium stop on his calendar, an April 26 date at Columbia, SC's Williams Brice Stadium. All dates are below.
"People don't realize going from arena to amphitheatre to stadium to amphitheater keeps you on your game," Chesney said in a press release. "I don't think I really got how different going from one to the other is until we were in the middle of it last summer."
Chesney is touring behind last September's "Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates," which has seen its first two singles--"Never Wanted Nothing More" and "Don't Blink"--claim the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
"I tried on so many titles," Chesney said in a press release. "But, in the end, it was the simplest name that fit this record the best. 'Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates' pretty much says it all ... At the end of the day, you strip it all off, and that's what it comes down to: great songs that are about the smallest things and people who're living just beyond the rules."
