Britney Spears hospitalized again

For the second time this month, troubled pop star Britney Spears has been removed from her home and transported to a medical facility, according to published reports.

The Los Angeles Times reports that police officers arrived at Spears' Studio City, CA, residence shortly before 1 a.m. today (1/31). Moments later, they "physically removed" her from her home, placed her in an ambulance, and then transported her to UCLA Medical Center via a motorcade that comprised more than a dozen motorcycle officers, two cruisers and two police helicopters flying overhead. Police reportedly prevented the obligatory swarm of paparazzi that follows Spears from trailing the motorcade.

Authorities reportedly said they responded to Spears' residence after receiving a telephone call from Spears' psychiatrist. The singer reportedly remains at the hospital on a "mental health evaluation hold."

Earlier this month, an ambulance transported Spears from her home to the hospital after police--who responded to her residence following a report of a domestic dispute--deemed her to be under the influence of an unknown substance. The incident reportedly stemmed from Spears' alleged refusal to release her sons--Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1--to ex-husband Kevin Federline's bodyguards, who had arrived at Spears' home to pick the children up following their court-monitored visit with Spears.

In the wake of that event, a court commissioner suspended Spears' visitation rights and awarded to Federline sole physical and legal custody of the couple's children. Spears has since regained the right to speak to the children by telephone, according to Us magazine.

Spears has been a tabloid fixture since her 2006 divorce from Federline.
