The Breeders plot trek up 'Mountain'
The Breeders return after a long layoff between studio albums to mount a US trek behind their forthcoming release, "Mountain Battles."
The current edition of the veteran alt-rock outfit--originally formed in the late '80s as a side project for Pixies' bassist Kim Deal and then-Throwing Muses guitarist Tanya Donelley--features much of the same lineup from the band's previous cycle of touring and recording in the early part of the decade. Again joining sisters Kim and Kelley Deal (who both contribute guitar and vocals this time around) are bassist Mando Lopez and drummer Jose Medeles.
The band will launch its spring/summer run with an April 25 slot at Indio, CA's Coachella festival before kicking off the headlining portion of the run April 28 in San Diego. The group will hit 27 cities during the outing, keeping busy through a mid-June closing date in Atlanta. The complete schedule is listed below.
"Mountain Battles," The Breeders' fourth album and first since 2002's "Title TK," is due in stores April 8. The set features production work from, among others, Steve Albini, who famously produced The Pixies' seminal 1988 record "Surfer Rosa."
In a December interview with Rolling Stone, Kim Deal said that the new album represents an updated version of the familiar Breeders sound.
"We did a little bit more overdubs," she told the magazine. "'Title TK' is the five of us playing basically. That's how the practices sounded, that's what we played. But I found I didn't want to do that this time. I was okay with, oh, let's have a guitar part that obviously nobody in the band can be playing right now."
