Amy Winehouse cleans up at the Grammys

Britain's Amy Winehouse , one of pop music's most troubled souls, swept the Grammy Awards Sunday (2/10), receiving five trophies, including Song and Record of the Year for her single "Rehab."

After she won Record of the Year, Winehouse looked visibly stunned when she appeared via satellite from a London studio. Her band enveloped her in hugs before the studio audience started chanting "Amy." Shyly, she thanked her label as well as her husband, Blake.

She perked up once she mentioned her family: "To my mom and dad, for my Blake, my Blake incarcerated, and for London." Winehouse's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is jailed on a charge of trying to pervert the course of justice in relation to an assault on a bartender in June 2007.

From the London studio, Winehouse performed the cheating song "You Know I'm No Good" as well as the much-celebrated "Rehab." The oft-frail-looking Winehouse was in fine form--physically and vocally--sporting her trademark black beehive hairdo and cat-eye make-up.

Kanye West didn't have much to complain about this year. Nominated for eight awards, the outspoken rapper won four. He took home Best Rap Album for "Graduation," Best Solo Performance for "Stronger," Best Rap Song for "Good Life" and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for "Southside," his collaboration with Common.

"It definitely feels good to be home during the Grammys," West said. "We snuck in about four or five years ago, now we've made this our new place of residence."

West, who had the word "Mama" shaved in his hair, thanked his fans for supporting him after his mother died unexpectedly from complications during cosmetic surgery. When producers began playing music as a cue for him to wrap it up, he looked insulted and said, "It would be in good taste if you stopped the music, then."

The music stopped and West continued: "I know you're really proud of me right now and I know you want me to be the No. 1 artist in the world, and mama all I'm going to do is keep making you proud. We run this."

Celebrating its 50th year, the three-and-a-half-hour Grammy Awards ceremony was filled with performances, while many of the awards were presented off the air. Some of the modern performers were paired with their idols. The show kicked off with a whispery Alicia Keys performing a duet of "Learnin' the Blues" with a video of Frank Sinatra.

Afterward, Prince showed he had a sense of humor, just before he presented Keys with the Best Female R&B Vocal prize for "No One."

"Frank Sinatra looked good for 150, didn't he?" Prince joked.

Tina Turner and Beyonce laid down a sexy version of Turner's "Proud Mary." Prince proteges The Time reunited to perform "Jungle Love" mashed with Rihanna's Grammy Award-winning song "Umbrella." Later in the night, singer Keely Smith, saxophonist Dave Koz and Kid Rock joined forces for "That Old Black Magic."

Besides West and Winehouse, other multiple award winners included Bruce Springsteen , who earned three Grammys, including Best Rock Song for "Radio Nowhere," along with Justin Timberlake , Foo Fighters and the White Stripes. For the second year in a row, Timberlake won Best Dance Record, this time for "LoveStoned/I Think She Knows."

In a surprise to many, the Album of the Year Grammy went to jazz great Herbie Hancock's "River: The Joni Letters." The album features covers of Joni Mitchell's music, as well as a list of big-name singers including Tina Turner, Norah Jones and Leonard Cohen.

Also earning a Grammy was Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama for his spoken-word version of his book "The Audacity Of Hope: Thoughts On Reclaiming The American Dream."
