Thrice uses 'Alchemy' to create spring tour
Post-hardcore experimentalists Thrice , currently on a co-headlining tour in Canada, have already mapped further road plans behind their latest album, "The Alchemy Index."
The California group continues its run with indie rock outfits Say Anything and Attack in Black tonight (2/11) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, one of nine remaining dates left on the schedule. After a short break, Thrice kicks off another outing April 16 in San Diego, this time with fellow progressive-minded acts Circa Survive and Pelican signed on for company.
The trek will hit 32 cities over two months before coming to a close late in May. All dates are below.
Thrice is supporting a new concept album, "The Alchemy Index," which the group originally hoped to release as four separate EPs. After switching labels midway through the album's recording process (from Island to Vagrant), the band decided to release the set as two separate albums. "The Alchemy Index Vols. I & II - Fire and Water" was released in October; the next two "volumes" are due on a single CD in April.
The group self-produced the concept suite, which revolves around the four elements--fire, water, air, earth--with six album tracks representing each element. The first of the two albums debuted at No. 24 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, and No. 5 on iTunes' top-selling albums list.
Philadelphia-based Circa Survive, which consists of vocalist Anthony Green plus members of now-defunct indie rockers This Day Forward, is touring behind last year's "On Letting Go," which peaked at No. 24 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart, marking the band's highest charting performance to date.
Chicago post-metal instrumentalists Pelican released their most recent full-length, "City of Echoes," last June.
