Kanye West glows across North America
The hip-hop superstar will take Rihanna , N.E.R.D. and Lupe Fiasco along for the six-week ride, which is scheduled to stop at arenas and amphitheaters beginning April 16 in Seattle. West is also scheduled to perform June 12 at Manchester, TN's Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. Details are listed below.
West can now boast about being a 10-time Grammy winner since snagging four more trophies at Sunday's (2/10) ceremony. He went into the evening with eight nominations and walked away with Best Rap Album for "Graduation," Best Rap Solo Performance for "Stronger," Best Rap Song for "Good Life" and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for "Southside," his collaboration with Common. Still, many observers were stunned that the rapper lost Album of the Year to Herbie Hancock.
West made chart history for a second time in September when his third record, "Graduation," snagged the No. 1 spot on The Billboard 200 with first-week sales reaching nearly 957,000 units. The debut was the biggest of any album since West's 2005 sophomore set, "Late Registration," according to a press release.
"Graduation" has spawned rap and pop hits "Stronger," "Good Life" and "Can't Tell Me Nothing." The highly anticipated video for West's latest single, "Flashing Lights"--which depicts the rapper in quite a precarious position--is currently streaming at his website.
The flamboyant performer first made a name for himself behind the production board, working with artists including Jay-Z, Talib Kweli, Ludacris and Alicia Keys. In 2004, he released his first solo album, "The College Dropout," which scored multi-platinum status and a whopping 10 Grammy nominations. West went home with three trophies at the 2005 ceremony and scored another three the next year for "Late Registration."
