Mike Doughty adds new 'Delicious' dates

Alt-rock singer/songwriter Mike Doughty has added fresh dates to his upcoming spring tour, which follows last week's release of his latest solo album, "Golden Delicious."

The former Soul Coughing frontman will lead his band--which, aside from Doughty on vocals and guitar, includes John Kirby on keyboards, Pete McNeal on drums and Andrew "Scrap" Livingston on bass--on a tour of almost 40 cities, kicking off March 12 in Northampton, MA.

Alt-rockers The Panderers, whose debut EP is due in March on the Snack Bar label, will open all of Doughty's headlining shows on the trek.

"Golden Delicious" was produced by Grammy winner Dan Wilson (Jewel, Dixie Chicks), who also helmed Doughty's previous album, 2005's "Haughty Melodic." Doughty enlisted his touring band for the recording of "Delicious," with the addition of Semisonic's John Munson, who sat in on bass while Livingston shifted to guitar.

"This time, the intention was to make everything live, spontaneous and of the moment," Doughty said in a press statement. "I've been playing with these guys for a couple of years and encouraged them to contribute to the process. They put their individual stamp on the music and had input into the arranging and development of the songs.

"I like guys who can surprise me and I was always smiling in the studio," he added.

Doughty's former band, Soul Coughing, produced three studio albums in the '90s before breaking up in 2000.
