Son Volt continues 'Search' on spring tour
Jay Farrar continues to map plans with his latest edition of Son Volt , with the vocalist and band plotting an April tour behind their most recent LP, last year's "The Search."
The group will get support from country-rock singer/songwriter Bobby Bare Jr. on the two-week trek, which kicks off April 9 in Louisville, KY.
"The Search," which landed in stores about a year ago, was the fifth album to bear Son Volt's name, and second since frontman Farrar resurrected the band with 2005's "Okemah and the Melody of Riot," which featured a completely new lineup from previous Son Volt incarnations.
Farrar--who formed Son Volt in 1994 after the breakup of Uncle Tupelo, which also featured current Wilco leader Jeff Tweedy--said on the group's officialwebsite that he was taking care of "unfinished business" when he revived the band after a five-year hiatus, explaining that Son Volt represents "a kind of aesthetic that I want to continue doing."
"The solo stuff had a liberating effect out of just doing something different for several years," he added. "But ultimately, I felt getting back to Son Volt was something that had to happen."
Bare's most recent set, 2006's "The Longest Meow," was recorded in Nashville with producer Brad Jones and a core band consisting of bassist Mike Grimes and My Morning Jacket members Carl Broemel (guitar) and Patrick Hallahan (drums), augmented by contributions from Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Doni Schroader (Trail of Dead), Deanna Varagona (Lambchop) and Ben Martin (Clem Snide), among others.
