Sevendust bows out of Mayhem fest

Alt-metal rockers Sevendust have dropped off this summer's inaugural Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival citing a scheduling conflict.

"Due to changes in Sevendust's touring schedule, the band will not be appearing on the Mayhem Tour this summer," the group said in a blog posting at its MySpace page. "However, the band will be touring in full support of their forthcoming release, 'Hope & Sorrow, Chapter VII.' Stay tuned for more details."

The album, Sevendust's seventh studio effort, is scheduled to drop April 1. The set marks the Atlanta-based group's second release on its own 7 Bros. Records label, following last year's "Alpha."

Sevendust was to be a second-stage act on the Mayhem tour, which will be headlined by hard rockers Slipknot and Disturbed . The outing, set to launch July 9 at the Seattle area's White River Amphitheatre, will also include Dragonforce and Mastodon on the mainstage.

The festival's two "second stages" will feature Airbourne, Five Finger Death Punch, 36 Crazy Fists, Machine Head, Black Tide, Suicide Silence, The Red Chord, Walls of Jericho and the "Jagermeister Battle of the Bands" winner.

The hard-rock extravaganza is scheduled to visit 30 cities in the US and Canada between July and August. Organizers expect to announce the full itinerary shortly.

The Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, sponsored by Rockstar Energy Drink, is a partnership between promotions giant Live Nation and the founders of the Vans Warped Tour and Rockstar Taste of Chaos tour.
