Steve Earle adds to spring 'Serenade'
Steve Earle --who opened his current headlining tour last night (2/28) in Northampton, MA--has added a bunch of new dates in support of his latest studio effort.
The veteran singer/songwriter adds an April/May swing onto his current outing, which continues tonight (2/29) in Somerville, MA. With the addition of the new shows, Earle is scheduled to hit 27 cities through early May. All dates are included below.
"Washington Square Serenade," released last fall and produced by John King of the Dust Brothers (Beck, Beastie Boys), is Earle's first album since relocating to New York City from Nashville, where he had based his career since 1975. He recently told Canadian music mag Exclaim! that he left behind his customary recording methods along with his old town.
"One of the main things was that I didn't have the studio in Nashville anymore, and also I kind of wanted to keep the band out of the pre-production process," Earle said. "It ended up being a record where I worked with people I had never worked with before, and therefore a fresh start. It started because I finally learned how to use ProTools. I never had anything against that, I was just firmly entrenched in the analog world, which was what I knew and where I was comfortable.
"But I was living in a new place, so the idea of doing something different in terms of recording made sense," he added.
Earle recently scored his second consecutive Grammy win during the event's 50th annual ceremony earlier this month when "Serenade" won in the Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album category, the same award given to his previous album, 2004's "The Revolution Starts Now."
