True Colors Tour gets out the vote with Cyndi Lauper, B-52's

March 5, 2008 11:03 AM
Cyndi Lauper will lead another edition of the True Colors tour on the road this summer to support the gay-and-lesbian advocacy group Human Rights Campaign.

Aside from Lauper, who conceived of and headlined last year's inaugural edition of the tour, the 24-city trek--which kicks off May 31 in Boston--will feature The B-52's and Rosie O'Donnell, along with host Carson Kressley of the Bravo cable network's "Queer Eye."

A number of special guests will hop on the tour for select dates, including Indigo Girls , Joan Armatrading , Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Regina Spektor , Tegan and Sara and others. Check the tour's official website for more information on lineups at specific tour stops.

This year's tour will "highlight the need for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and their straight allies to get out and make their votes count this fall," according to a press release, with one dollar from each ticket sold going directly to HRC.

"I'm so excited and honored that we're taking True Colors out on the road again this year," Lauper, who will again serve as the tour's producer, said in a statement. "We had a blast last year and we are proud that the tour also brought about visibility and discussions of issues that LGBT citizens face in our country today."

"This year the party only gets bigger and our message to the fans is to get out and vote in November," added the singer. "The True Colors Tour asks for equality for all, not just for some, that is the principal upon which this country was founded. So let's celebrate and have fun this summer while we spread the word to get out the vote and all become a part of the changes in this country."

"True Colors is a good way to get out the vote, and get out of the house and party!" added Fred Schneider of The B-52's.
