Dave Matthews Band sets summer schedule
The Grammy-winning group plans to debut material from its forthcoming album on the North American trek, which is set to kick off May 30 with the first of two shows in Burgettstown, PA. The itinerary boasts nearly 40 US cities, including a few places DMB hasn't performed in several years, and a stop in Toronto. Two-night stands are booked in Camden, NJ; Hartford, CT; Saratoga Springs, NY; Mansfield, MA; West Palm Beach, FL; Noblesville, IN; East Troy, WI; and Los Angeles. The outing will close with three-night stays in George, WA, and Berkeley, CA. Details are listed below.
As usual, Dave Matthews Band has tapped a bevy of openers, including Willie Nelson, The Black Crowes, Paolo Nutini, O.A.R., Gomez, Ingrid Michaelson, and Michael Franti & Spearhead .
Pre-sale tickets through DMB's fan club website are available starting today (3/6) and the general public can purchase tickets for most shows beginning March 29.
Dave Matthews Band is currently in the studio with producer Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance) working on its yet-to-be-titled forthcoming album. Guitarist and longtime friend Tim Reynolds is in on the fun, marking his first recording with the group since 1998's "Before These Crowded Streets."
The new set follows 2005's "Stand Up," which was DMB's fourth consecutive studio album to debut at the top of The Billboard 200. The band, which puts out a steady stream of live recordings between studio sets, released "Live at Piedmont Park" in December. That collection, which captures a performance in front of 50,000-plus fans in Atlanta, comes in a set of three CDs or two DVDs.
DMB's music is also featured in the IMAX film "Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk," which is due March 14 in anticipation of World Water Day. Bassist Stefan Lessard composed and arranged the film's musical score with longtime MacGillivray Freeman Films collaborator Steve Wood, and the pair recruited Reynolds and DMB's Carter Beauford and Boyd Tinsley to play on the score.
Dave Matthews Band has sold 35 million units (CDs and DVDs combined) since the 1994 release of its major label debut, "Under the Table and Dreaming," according to a press release.
