Bruce Springsteen slots in benefit concert
Proceeds from the May 7 "An Evening with Bruce Springsteen" concert will benefit the historic theater and help offset the cost of its renovation and restoration. Springsteen's wife and bandmate, Patti Scialfa, serves on the board of the Basie Foundation.
Tickets will be made available to the public through an online "Make Your Best Offer" auction beginning March 20 at the Count Basie Theatre website.
Meanwhile, Springsteen's 2008 world tour with the E Street Band continues tonight (3/7) in Buffalo, NY. The group has US dates from coast to coast through late April before it begins a two-month tour of Europe. The Boss and company will then return to the states in July for a three-night grand finale at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. As previously reported, they've also agreed to play Harley-Davidson's 105th Anniversary Celebration Aug. 30 in Milwaukee. US dates are listed below and those overseas can be found at Springsteen's website.
Springsteen and the E Street Band made a triumphant return to the road last year to support their platinum-selling October release, "Magic," which marked their first new studio effort since 2002's Grammy-winning "The Rising." Last month, the group added to its Grammy collection, taking home Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance and Best Rock Song honors for the single "Radio Nowhere."
