John Fogerty Leads New Orleans-Themed Tour
John Fogerty will top the bill on a concert tour dubbed Acura Music Festival: Destination New Orleans, which is scheduled to open on Aug. 5 in West Palm Beach, Fla. The line-up of bands will vary from city to city, with three acts on the bill in most markets.
Though Fogerty is a California native, he nonetheless became associated with New Orleans music by penning songs like “Born on the Bayou” for Creedence Clearwater Revival. The theme continued into his solo career; in 1997 he titled an album “Blue Moon Swamp.”
Only in recent years has Fogerty begun to play CCR hits in concert. For well over a decade, he refused to play the songs because of a long-running business dispute with CCR’s label Fantasy Records. However, Fogerty released a live album in 1998 titled “Premonition” that featured renditions of several CCR hits.
The tour will feature Aaron Neville through Sept. 3, and boogie-woogie/swamp-rocker Marcia Ball is scheduled to appear on Aug. 5, 7, and 21, as well as Sept. 1. Irma Thomas, known as the “Soul Queen of New Orleans,” will link with the tour for its two California stops.
New Orleans-born boogie/blues pianist Dr. John is scheduled to join the bill on Aug. 19-20 and Sept. 3-10.
