Gin Jam Tour To Unite Seagram Businesses
Up-and-coming R&B artists Chanté Moore, Jesse Powell and Calvin Richardson hit the road next month for the "Seagram's Gin Jam 1999 Music Tour," an undertaking that, if nothing else, will serve as a textbook example of "corporate synergy."
The Canadian conglomerate Seagram -- which counts liquor, amusement park, and music-related ventures among its holdings -- will draw on several of its divisions to present the upcoming tour, which will also benefit charity. To wit, Seagram's Gin, obviously, is the tour's title sponsor. Secondly, all of the artists on the bill record for MCA and Universal Music Group labels -- labels which fall under Seagram's corporate umbrella. Completing the loop, the tour will debut on Sept. 2 with a free show on Orlando's Universal CityWalk, the Seagram-owned, tourist-oriented outdoor mall located outside the Seagram-owned Universal Studios Escape theme park.
In addition, the tour will make stops at three House of Blues venues, taking advantage of Seagram's new relationship with HOB Entertainment. Last month, Seagram's sold its concert business to HOB in a $190 million deal that included an agreement to feature artists on UMG labels in House of Blues venues.
Gin Jam headliner Chanté Moore is touring behind the new release ''This Moment is Mine,'' her third album. The kickoff show will be webcast live at www.ginjam.com on Sept. 2, and a portion of all ticket sales will benefit Share Our Strength, an anti-hunger, anti-poverty organization.
