X marks another spot on 31st anniversary tour
Featuring original members John Doe (bass/vocals), Billy Zoom (guitar), Exene Cervenka (vocals) and D.J. Bonebrake (drums), the group kicked off the outing earlier this month. The next stop on the tour comes tonight (3/25) in Denver, with the trek's second leg kicking off in mid-May and running through early June. All of the band's remaining dates are shown below.
Although X hasn't released an album of all-new material since 1993's "Hey Zeus!" (which was recorded with Tony Gilkyson on guitar replacing Zoom, who had left the band in the mid-'80s), Doe recently hinted in an interview with LiveDaily that the group was considering a return to the recording studio.
"We're thinking about it, working on it, trying to figure out where that might fit. It's not totally out of the question," the singer said.
Doe's most recent release is last year's "A Year In the Wilderness," while he, Cervenka and Bonebrake toured as part of The Knitters in 2005 after issuing the roots-rocking band's second album, "The Modern Sounds of the Knitters," which followed the group's 1985 debut LP by a mere 20 years.
X was formed in the burgeoning Los Angeles punk scene of 1977 when co-founders Zoom and Doe "placed virtually identically worded ads in the same paper on the same day looking to start a band," according to a press release. Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek discovered the band and produced (and performed on) X's debut album, 1980's seminal "Los Angeles," the first of several highly regarded releases from the band in the early '80s.
