Emmylou Harris hits the road ahead of new album
Country/bluegrass veteran Emmylou Harris is gearing up for the release of her new studio album with a run of dates across North America.
Harris will kick things off May 23 in Monterey, CA, and travel to the East Coast and back through July. Gigs include a two-night stand in New York City and stops in the Canadian cities of Toronto and Vancouver. Details are listed below.
The singer's next studio album is due June 10, according to her website. It will follow September's five-disc career retrospective, "Songbird: Rare Tracks and Forgotten Gems," which features previously unreleased material, demos, studio tracks and collaborations. The collection also includes a DVD of videos and performances dating back to the '70s.
Earlier this year, Harris collaborated with Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin and Buddy Miller on the "3 Girls & Their Buddy" tour. Her latest studio album is also a collaboration: 2006's "All the Roadrunning" with Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler.
During her more than three-decade career, Harris has sold upwards of 15 million albums and scored 12 Grammys, according to her bio. Later this year, she'll be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
The songstress, who is also a passionate animal-rights activist, recently told the Humane Society that she now wants to devote her life to the cause. Harris operates the Nashville-area animal rescue/fostering organization Bonaparte's Retreat.
