Police in Austin have finished their investigation of the circumstances surrounding a December 11th incident at the Liberty Lunch club in Austin, TX during which Afghan Whigs [ tickets ] frontman Greg Dulli suffered a fractured skull in an alleged fight with an off-duty stagehand. A Grand Jury will review the findings to determine whether any criminal charges will be filed in the matter.

The incident followed an Afghan Whigs performance at the venue earlier in the evening which had reportedly been prefaced by some harsh words between band members and the venue's stage crew. Local reports after the incident indicated that Dulli confronted a stagehand after the show, initiating an altercation during which he was ''decked'' and was injured when he fell, hitting his head on a concrete surface.

Statements issued by the band this last week call those reports, based in large part on statements by Liberty Lunch staffers, as false and unbalanced. In the band's statements, they pointed to inconsistencies in the Liberty Lunch chronology of events, but didn't lay out an alternate version of the story, citing pending litigation. Dulli and the band have filed a civil suit against the club, its management and the stagehand, identified only by his nickname ''Taiter.''

The Afghan Whigs were forced to cancel seven tour dates as a result of Dulli's injuries. Almost all of the dates are expected to be made up in February, as the band prepares to launch a European tour.
