UK's Leona Lewis tops US album chart
Leona Lewis , a British singer who was discovered on Simon Cowell's UK television talent-search series "The X Factor," enters the US album chart at No. 1 with her debut set, "Spirit."
The album sold 205,000 copies during its first week in stores, and easily bests George Strait 's "Troubadour," which falls to No. 2 on The Billboard 200 on sales of 59,000. Billboard bases its flagship album chart on Nielsen SoundScan retail reports.
Country crooner James Otto debuts at No. 3 with his sophomore set, "Sunset Man," which sold 58,000 copies. The "NOW 27" multi-artist hits compilation sold 47,000 copies and dips one slot to No. 4, according to Billboard. R.E.M. 's "Accelerate" slips one rung to No. 5 on sales of 46,000.
Filling out the bottom half of this week's Top 10 are the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" soundtrack, Ray J 's "All I Feel," Rick Ross ' "Trilla," P.O.D. 's "When Angels & Serpents Dance" and Danity Kane 's "Welcome to the Dollhouse."
