My Morning Jacket emerges with 'Evil Urges'

My Morning Jacket has booked a handful of North American dates to showcase material from its new album, "Evil Urges."

After an April 27 performance at Indio, CA's Coachella Festival, the eclectic rockers will skip over to June, when they'll play Manchester, TN's Bonnaroo Festival, a couple of Canadian shows and a gig at Radio City Music Hall that is already sold out, according to My Morning Jacket's MySpace page.

The band will then head to Europe for a few weeks, and return to Canada in time for the Pemberton Festival in Whistler, British Columbia. The itinerary currently wraps with an Aug. 16 show in MMJ's hometown of Louisville, KY. North American dates are listed below and those overseas can be found at the group's website.

"Evil Urges," My Morning Jacket's fifth studio album, is scheduled to drop June 10 via ATO Records. The band will preview material from the set on NBC-TV's "Saturday Night Live" May 10.

MMJ, which is known for mixing styles including indie rock, country, southern rock and psychedelic, pushes the boundaries on "Evil Urges" by including heavy funk beats and synthesizers, according to MTV News.

"On the first listen, there's a lot of variety in a lot of different places, but I think after repeated listens, hopefully the listener would understand the similarities more than the differences," frontman Jim James told the music network.

The new record follows MMJ's 2006 live set, "Okonokos," which features 21 tracks and is accompanied by a DVD concert film of the same name. My Morning Jacket's most recent studio offering, "Z," was named the best album of 2005 by LiveDaily's critics.
