Richard Thompson reschedules US dates
Thompson had to bow out of his April trek after being stung by a scorpion while on vacation in Mexico, according to a posting at his website. The sting was expected to incapacitate the guitarist's right hand for two to three weeks, but he plans to be back in business in time for his May 2 slot at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
Between tours of Europe, Thompson will pop back across the Pond for solo and festival performances in the US and Canada throughout the summer. In October, he'll finish what he started, visiting 10 East Coast cities in the States. North American gigs are included below and those overseas can be found at Thompson's website.
The tireless musician continues to support last year's "Sweet Warrior," which mixes some of his most memorable recordings with a batch of new songs, including the politically charged "Dad's Gonna Kill Me." The set is Thompson's first electronic album since 2003's "The Old Kit Bag."
The Grammy-nominated performer's career stretches back to the late '60s, when he co-founded British folk-rock band Fairport Convention. In the '70s, Thompson recorded several albums with his then-wife, Linda Peters, including "Shoot Out the Lights," which regularly makes critics' lists of the top 10 records of all time.
For the past 20-plus years, Thompson has performed solo, earning accolades including an Ivor Novello Award for Songwriting and the 2006 BBC Lifetime Achievement Award. He was also named by Rolling Stone as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of all time.
