Mariah Carey's new album shoots to No. 1
Mariah Carey 's "E=MC2" sold 463,000 copies during its first week in stores, plenty to give the singer her sixth No. 1 album.
That total also marks the best debut-week performance for any album to date in 2008, topping Jack Johnson 's "Sleep Through the Static," which sold 375,000 copies its first week out.
Charting at No. 2 this week--down a notch--is Leona Lewis ' "Spirit," which moved 95,000 copies. With sales of 47,000, Miley Cyrus ' "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: The Best of Both Worlds Concert," which was a Wal-Mart exclusive until last week, rockets from No. 31 to No. 3 on The Billboard 200. Billboard bases its flagship album chart on Nielsen/SoundScan data.
Lady Antebellum enters the chat at No. 4 with its self-titled debut, which sold 43,000 copies. The "NOW 27" hits compilation slips one spot to No. 5 with 39,000 copies sold, according to Billboard.
Rounding out the Top 10 are George Strait 's "Troubadour," The "Alvin and the Chipmunks" soundtrack, the "Juno" soundtrack, R.E.M. 's "Accelerate," and Taylor Swift's self-titled album.
