Kenny Chesney to play on despite injury

April 28, 2008 03:04 PM
Kenny Chesney suffered foot injuries Saturday (4/26) during a scary on-stage accident at Columbia, SC's Williams-Brice Stadium, but he finished that show and isn't expected to miss any upcoming dates.

According to reports, Chesney was injured when his boot got caught between the stage and a rising hydraulic platform. He reportedly was stuck for about 30 seconds.

Though Chesney was limping and clearly in pain after he freed himself, the country singer still completed his two-hour set, according to local newspaper The State. More than 44,000 fans reportedly were on hand for the performance.

Chesney's boot was cut off after the show, and X-rays later showed that he'd suffered some crushed bones in his foot.

On Monday (4/28), Chesney's website revealed that the singer won't miss his next performance, scheduled for Thursday (5/1) in Austin, TX.

"[My orthopeist] told me it's going to hurt--though nothing could hurt worse than Saturday I don't think--and they can give me something to deaden the pain when I get out there," Chesney said in a statement. "I also have to have a doctor standing by should something give, but I'm going to tape it up; I'm going to get out there."

Chesney's toes suffered the most damage, according to his website, which reported that the performer required two morphine shots for the pain after leaving the stage Saturday.
