Musiq Soulchild takes Luvanmusiq Tour for another spin
Grammy-nominated R&B/soul singer Musiq Soulchild continues to support his latest No. 1 album, "Luvanmusiq," with a smattering of dates through summer.
The performer will play a handful of US shows over the next few months, including a July 4 gig at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. He'll pick up the pace in August, playing nearly a dozen concerts in the eastern half of the country, about half of which are with Chaka Khan . Details are listed below.
Musiq Soulchild, whose real name is Taalib Johnson, scored his second No. 1 debut on The Billboard 200 when he dropped "Luvanmusiq" in March 2007. The set, his fourth studio album and first for Atlantic Records, has spawned R&B/hip-hop hits including "Buddy" and "Teachme." It also earned Johnson three Grammy nominations at this year's awards ceremony: Best R&B Album, Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for "Buddy," and Best R&B Song for "Teachme."
A few songs from the record are streaming at Musiq Soulchild's MySpace page.
"Luvanmusiq" follows the singer/songwriter's award-winning 2004 set, "Soulstar," as well as his platinum-selling debut and sophomore albums "Aijuswanaseing" and "Juslisen." He said his latest record serves as a kind of reintroduction.
"The industry's changed and so have I--personally, mentally, psychologically," Johnson explained in a statement. "I look at my previous three albums as grade school, middle school and high school. Now with this new album, 'Luvanmusiq,' it's like I'm going off to college."
