Elton John fills calendar through year's end
Elton John has added another round of dates to his residency in Las Vegas, and in between those "Red Piano" shows, the legendary performer will stay busy with concerts all over the world.
This month finds John in Austria, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and China, and he'll return stateside in late May for a couple of shows in Alaska before gracing the Vegas stage once again in June. The superstar will be back in Europe in late July for a two-week run and then hit Atlantic City, NJ, and Essex Junction, VT, before heading back to Sin City for a smattering of "Red Piano" dates in July, August, October and November.
Later in the year, John will drag the larger-than-life "Red Piano" set across the Pond to share the flamboyant show with European fans. North American dates are listed below and overseas shows can be found at the entertainer's website.
The July 21 gig in Vermont will mark a milestone for John, giving him bragging rights for playing every state in the US at least once, according to a news posting at his website. It only took the Rocket Man 38 years to meet that goal, as he gave his first US performance in 1970 at Los Angeles' Troubadour Club.
Fans will get a reminder of those good ol' days in June when Mercury/Universal Records is scheduled to re-release two early John albums: his 1970 self-titled set and 1971's "Tumbleweed Connection." Each will be offered separately as a two-disc set containing the original album plus a bonus CD of previously unreleased tracks and a booklet with new sleeve notes, photos and lyrics.
Last year, John revisited his top hits with "Rocket Man - Number Ones," which comprises 18 songs from the first 35 years of his career. The album accompanied the Grammy-winning singer's 60th birthday celebration, which he marked with a record-breaking 60th performance at New York City's Madison Square Garden. That concert is captured on the two-disc DVD collection "Elton John 60: Live at Madison Square Garden."
