L7's Donita Sparks lines up tour behind solo debut
The singer--who last toured with L7 in 2000--and her backup band, The Stellar Moments, will play a pair of West Coast shows, including a May 23 date in Long Beach, CA, before heading east for the remainder of the club tour. The trek will cover 10 cities through the middle of June. Details are below.
Recorded in Los Angeles with producer Ethan James (Luscious Jackson, The 88), "Transmiticate" is Sparks' first post-L7 effort.
"My writing on this record isn't really a reaction to outside factors, it's more of an internal thing," Sparks said in her online biography. "The first songs that I wrote were the soft ones, 'Creampuff' and 'My Skin's Too Thin.' I was feeling pretty vulnerable at the time. Then the rock started creeping in, but I wanted to keep it fun and empowered."
"Transmiticate is a made-up word," Sparks added, explaining the album's title. "Transmiticate means to communicate through transmission, pick up the signals and then send out your own. Trust the vibes, follow the cosmic arrows and rise up out of the daily beat downs."
All-girl rockers L7, who banded together in the mid-'80s, released six studio albums, debuting with a self-titled set in 1988 on Epitaph. The band released "Slap-Happy" in 1999 before announcing that the group was going on indefinite hiatus.
